We spent the last week focusing intensively on our young horses. We weaned the foals. We always do this using the same system, and it works very well. The foals, in the same groups where the mares and foals were previously in the pasture, are now moved together to a loose housing area, while their respective mares are moved to a different one – not within the same barn section, but separated from each other. This way, the mothers and foals don’t see each other, but they all already know each other, and the group dynamics are established. So there’s no stressful unrest.
We also brought the young horses in from the pastures and housed them in loose housing areas as well. From now on, they’ll only be outside during the day and inside at night – naturally, only groups that know each other from the pasture are kept together.
Of course, we were disappointed to hear that the stallion licensing in Redefin had to be canceled. Now we’re keeping our fingers crossed that a new date can be set for early 2021.
