In Emsbüren, there were several reasons to celebrate in 2022: The Tebbel Stallion Station marked its tenth anniversary, the senior owner Josef Tebbel recently celebrated his 80th birthday, and the top show jumper Chacco’s Son I returned to stud. The now 15-year-old Westphalian stallion Chacco’s Son I (by Chacco-Blue-Lancer III-Pinocchio.Pilot-Debütant-Dirigent-Frühling; breeder: Wilhelm Schwenker, Hille) was one of the best show jumpers in Europe in recent years and was discovered and trained by the Tebbel family themselves. Although Chacco’s Son I bears the Westphalian brand, he was licensed and awarded a premium by the Oldenburg-International Show Jumping Horse Breeding Association in Vechta in 2009. At five, six, and seven years old, Chacco’s Son I attracted attention at the World Championships for Young Show Jumping Horses, first under René, then under Maurice Tebbel. In 2014, Chacco’s Son I and Maurice Tebbel won their first international 1.40m jumping competition, followed a year later by their first 1.50m competition, and also won team silver at the European Championships for Young Riders. In 2016, they made their five-star debut at the World Cup tournament in Leipzig, where the pair immediately impressed with a clear round – many more confident rounds followed: at World Cup tournaments, Nations Cups, the Global Champions Tour, including events in Oliva/ESP, Munich, and Riesenbeck. In 2017, he was part of the German team at the European Championships in Gothenburg (SWE), jumped a double clear in the Nations Cup in Aachen, and was thus part of the winning German team.
Chacco’s Son I stood at stud in Emsbüren from 2010 to 2014; from 2015 to 2021, his focus was exclusively on sport. His first foal crops produced remarkable results, including five licensed sons: The most prominent of these is the brown Chacco’s Light (dam by Light On-Emilion-).
Acalwahl-Logos-Alpsee xx; Hann. Stamm 1485/Nibata; Breeder: Ewald Brüggemann, Rheine). He is one of the current top horses under the saddle of Maurice Tebbel and thus follows in his father’s footsteps. In 2021, at the age of seven, he was already internationally successful at the three-star level, including at the CHIO Aachen. The golden-brown, incredibly expressive and fascinating jumper Chilano Blue (dam by Carenzo-Grand Ferdinand II-Goldstein-Abhang III-Walzer; Hann. Stamm 774/Weisheit; Breeder: Wolfgang Stümpel, Beesten) has been at stud at Brodheeker since 2017 and has since achieved S-level placings with Philipp Brodheeker.
Chacco’s Crack (dam by Lando xx-Sure Blade xx-Cortez xx: Thoroughbred family 4; breeder: Marten Schuldt, Messingen), the brown half-brother who made a very impressive debut in eventing under Frank Osterholt, has also left behind several offspring. Furthermore, the handsome brown Congstar (dam by Stakkato-Dinar-Miracolo cc-Gotthard; Hanoverian dam line 1484/Gloria; breeder: Elisabeth and Margret Kirschner)
Sögel) who made his breeding and sporting debut in Denmark, then returned to Emsbüren and has since moved to the Czech Republic. The dark brown Hanoverian Carm Art (dam by Abke-Grannus-Nebelwerfer-Jonas-Florentiner I; Hanoverian dam line 625/Jedlita; breeder: Johann and Johannes Krull GbR, Dörpen) is the fifth licensed son.
Impressive record:
The oldest Chacco’s Son I offspring are now eleven years old. Of 27 placed progeny, a remarkable eleven have already achieved success at the S level. An incredible record! The best athlete so far is the brown OS gelding, Cote de Pablo (dam by Argentinus-Quattro B-World Cup II-Avus-Salto I-Pik As xx-Elegant; Hanoverian dam line 35/Nikaza; breeder: Bernhard Gerdes, Lindern/Hegel), who was brought into the sport at the Tebbel stable by Alexandre Boursiert (FRA), achieved his first international placings with Maurice Tebbel, and is now competing in Grand Prix events under Justine Tebbel. Great successes!
The brown OS gelding Chocolate 87 (dam by Con Capitol-Pilot-Rex Gotthard-Wedekind-Der Löwe xx-Dollart, Hanoverian dam line 614/Jamuna; breeder: Jörg and Cordula Sostmann, Nordhorn) also achieved success with Josch Löhden. He has since moved to France and continues to be internationally successful with Jaxson Caman.
Chacco’s Son I embodies exceptional genetics
: His Mecklenburg sire, Chacco-Blue, genetically heavily influenced by Chamberin-Contender-Godabari xx, was highly placed in international Grand Prix competitions for several years with Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst and sired 56 licensed sons. Andreas Kreuzer rode Chacco-Blue in 2011 and 2012, achieving immediate international success before his unexpected death in the spring of 2012. His dam, Lancley, produced another licensed son, Chacco’s Son II, who also stands at stud at Tebbel Stall. In 2013, he was a premium stallion at the OS licensing in Vechta (just like his older brother in 2009), and in 2015, after his stallion performance test and first foal crop, he was awarded the Ia main premium for show jumping-oriented stallions in Vechta. Chacco’s Lüd, the full sister of Chacco’s Son I and II, produced the licensed stallion Corydon, the reserve champion of the OS licensing 2013, when mated with Cornado I.
She was a contemporary of Chacco’s Son II. He was sold to Belgium. With For Pleasure, she produced the licensed stallion For Chacco TN, who stands at stud with Team Nijhof in the Netherlands. In 2016, Lancley presented her third licensed offspring, the OS premium stallion Los Angeles de la Cense (by Los Angeles). He moved to the USA and is enjoying success in sport there. The Holsteiner damsire, Lancer III, made his breeding debut as a loan stallion at the Warendorf State Stud. Owned by Franz-Clemens Hoff (Rädigke), he was an international S-level winner with Toni Haßmann at a young age. In total, he sired 25 licensed sons, 302 registered broodmares (44 of which were awarded the State Premium), and 97 competition horses successful in S-level show jumping in Germany. Lancer III later stood briefly at stud at the Sprehe Stud before moving to Ukraine. Granddam Pia Power N is the product of a half-sibling mating. Both her sire Pinocchio and her dam Perle were descended from the legendary Westphalian stallion Pilot. Pilot sired top horses of international caliber with remarkable regularity. To name just a few: Olympic gold medalist Pedro/Wolfgang Brinkmann, Pirol/Lesley McNaught/SUI, Pierrot/Thomas Schepers, Pia Lotta/Edwina Tops-Alexander/AUS, Poker/Otto Becker, and PS Priamos/Dirk Hafemeister.
Pilot was also known as Ludger Beerbaum and Panama/Christian Ahlmann. At the time, he was the youngest German stallion to earn millions in prize money. After his death, he left behind a large reservoir of frozen semen, from which, among others, stallion sons such as Pilot’s Letzer, Portland L, and Pilotus were produced. His most famous stallion sons were Pit I, Pluspunkt, Phantom, Prominenz, and Pinocchio. Pilot’s influence on breeding extended far beyond the borders of Westphalia. Almost all German warmblood breeding programs utilized his genetic material. In 2005, a life-size monument was erected in his honor in front of the Westphalian Horse Center in Münster-Handorf. Pia Power N produced the licensed stallion Amantino with Amantus, who stood at stud for the Gripshöver family in Werne in 2007 and 2008.
Warendorf family heirlooms:
The great-grandmother Perle is, in turn, a full sister to the large-framed chestnut stallion Power Light (breeder: ZG Schöneberg/Niemann, Hüllhorst), born in 1988, who stood at stud for Otto Stach in Bruchmühlbach-Miesau (Rhineland-Palatinate) in the early 1990s. At four years old, he was sold to Manfred Schenk (Pirmasens), where he enjoyed success with various riders, including Richard Spooner, Kurt Wedel, Joachim Erdmann, and Dirk Hauser. His “great period” was from 1996 to 1999 under Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst.
He won Grand Prix and Nations Cup competitions. Until the age of 15, he competed in M and S level show jumping with his owner, Manfred Schenk. This outstanding athlete was used only sparingly for breeding. Perle and Power Light also embody the finest “Warendorf family silver” on their dam’s side: They are out of the Debütant daughter, Dina. Debütant was a highly esteemed Warendorf state stud stallion who passed on versatile traits, primarily for show jumping. Dina’s dam, Dora, is by the Hanoverian chestnut stallion Dirigent, who stood at stud at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Stud in Warendorf. Dirigent was bred through his
The first-class son Direx and numerous top mares contributed to his influence as a sire in Westphalian breeding. Direx was a full brother to Dora, and many of Pilot’s best offspring had a Direx dam. The dam line continues with the epoch-making Warendorf state stud stallion Frühling and the highly regarded brown Hanoverian Dorado I. The subsequent stallions Abessiniert and Festsport I also stood at stud in Warendorf. Although the line is clearly Westphalian on the surface, the Osnabrück state stud stallions are its most recent ancestors.
Ansturm and Neriton, both of whom stood at stud at the Warmsen station in the Westphalian border region, are recorded. The chestnut stallion Ansturm, born in 1924, stood at Warmsen from 1933 to 1936. Prior to that, the black stallion Neriton, born in 1911, stood there from 1929 to 1930, meaning the first recorded mare of this line was registered approximately 85 years ago. Chacco’s Son I still has a bright future ahead of him: he is a stallion in his prime. He has demonstrated everything a stallion can possibly show in sport and has left behind a truly impressive breeding legacy.
